CANTERBURY (Regular Type)
This series faithfully reproduces the 20th century pattern of the Canterbury Community, which is considered standard among Shaker oval boxes.
Canterbury was one of the central Shaker communities founded in New Hampshire in 1792, and later became the headquarters of the order. It was one of the earliest adopters of modern technology such as the telephone and electricity, and is famous for inventing a large washing machine. It was also enthusiastic about promoting industry, and released "Shaker Brand" products, including wooden products, which became widely known. It continued to play a central role in the order for a long time, existing until 1992, when the last sister passed away at the age of 96. It was designated a historical heritage site in 1993, and is open to the public.
