NEW R STOOL

The only drawback to wooden chairs is that they can cause pain in the buttocks if you sit on them for long periods of time.
This stool is made by hand, painstakingly carving each piece out of thick solid wood material into an R-shaped seat. The seat gently supports the buttocks, as if the palm of your hand were supporting them, making it less tiring to sit on for long periods of time.

The four legs that support the seat are firmly fixed in place with split wedges that penetrate the seat, and the surface is polished smoothly to eliminate any protrusions.
The legs are angled and spread out on all four sides, providing a sense of stability when sitting on them, and the legs are firmly connected by three thin crossbeams arranged in an H shape to prevent them from spreading out even when weight is applied.

These components, called spindles, are carefully carved one by one on a woodworking lathe over a long period of time. This technique was developed over time for the Windsor chair in Wales, UK, but the shape of the legs of the NEW R STOOL is an adaptation of the colonial style design that was developed in the United States under the influence of the Windsor chair.

The paint is impregnated with water-resistant water glass and finished with vegetable oil.

The seat is made of cherry wood, which is smooth and soft against the skin, and the legs are made of maple, which is hard, durable, and suitable for delicate processing. The only color available is black logwood dyed using a plant-based dyeing technique (three-tone black).

About plant dyeing

Many of IFUJI's products incorporate the plant dyeing technique, which is rare for wooden products.

Sandokuro is a method of dyeing fabric black using a red dye extracted from the trunk of logwood, a legume tree native to Mexico. It quickly became popular using logwood, which was brought to Japan via Europe during the Meiji period. It is called Sandokuro because the dyeing process is repeated multiple times. It will not turn out black in just three steps, so IFUJI dyes and mordantes fabrics more than 10 times. This is extremely time-consuming, and the dyeing results vary depending on the season, so we have been experimenting for many years. It is possible to dye any wood uniformly black, and we use a variety of woods, including cherry and maple, as base materials.

"Maple plant dyeing" is a unique IFUJI technique that uses a special solution to dye the base wood, sugar maple, a greenish-gray color. It took more than 10 years to achieve a consistent color. The degree of dyeing varies slightly depending on the wood, but the silky luster unique to sugar maple and the hard, metallic dye color are unique.

Plant-dyed products are prone to fading due to ultraviolet rays, so in order to maintain the original color, please avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. However, the color changes as it fades, and enjoying each change is one of the charms of the product. Sandoguro products can also be re-dyed.
