FOLDING TABLE
I was inspired by a British table I came across in an old folk art catalogue and started making it in 2006. While borrowing the idea of an innovative folding mechanism, I reviewed every detail to create a product that would be easy to use in modern life and would exist as a piece of high-quality furniture.
Both the legs and the tabletop are made entirely of solid wood. When using solid wood for the tabletop in particular, expansion and contraction in the width direction becomes an issue. If the work is not done carefully, it is likely to crack or warp later on. For this reason, this table is made using traditional anti-warping techniques called "suitukizan" and "arizan," which prevent warping without interfering with the wood's shrinkage.
In addition, because the legs are made of thin, long parts, strength is ensured by using "through tenons" and "split wedges" at the joints.
The original of this table was a manufactured product made in England during the Industrial Revolution, but IFUJI uses high-quality materials and carefully handcrafts each table, making it no exaggeration to say that it has been reborn as a completely different table from the original.
The moving parts are connected with beautiful brass bolts, which can be tightened or loosened with a coin, so you don't need to bring out a toolbox to fold the table (although it's a bit of a challenge since there are so many bolts).
The paint is impregnated with water-resistant liquid glass to prevent it from getting wet.
The materials used are sturdy and heavy oak and plant-dyed maple, available in two colors: black and gray.

About plant dyeing
Many of IFUJI's products incorporate the plant dyeing technique, which is rare for wooden products.
Sandokuro is a method of dyeing fabric black using a red dye extracted from the trunk of logwood, a legume tree native to Mexico. It quickly became popular using logwood, which was brought to Japan via Europe during the Meiji period. It is called Sandokuro because the dyeing process is repeated multiple times. It will not turn out black in just three steps, so IFUJI dyes and mordants fabrics more than 10 times. This is extremely time-consuming, and the dyeing results vary depending on the season, so we have been experimenting for many years. It is possible to dye any wood uniformly black, and we use a variety of woods, including cherry and maple, as base materials.
"Maple plant dyeing" is a unique IFUJI technique that uses a special solution to dye the base wood, ITAYA maple, a greenish-gray color. It took more than 10 years to achieve a consistent color. The degree of dyeing varies slightly depending on the wood, but the silky luster unique to ITAYA maple and the hard, metallic dye color are unique.
Plant-dyed products are prone to fading due to ultraviolet rays, so in order to maintain the original color, please avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. However, the color changes as it fades, and enjoying each change is one of the charms of the product. Sandoguro products can also be re-dyed.
